Christopher Nyambura, Ph.D.
Policy Assistant
Chris was born in Nairobi, Kenya and immigrated to Southern California at a young age. He spent his formative years in Pacoima and developed a strong interest in math, chemistry and engineering through his involvement in US FIRST Robotics Competition. His passion for applying fundamental science in engineering solutions drives him to be a positive influence in his community. He graduated from University of California Santa Barbara with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. After a summer internship at Gilead Sciences, he decided to pursue graduate education and went on to earn his M.S. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Washington Seattle. In Seattle, he had the opportunity to work with TechBridge Girls where he helped underrepresented minority girls learn more about machine learning and computer vision. In addition, his research has contributed in the development of highly effective drug delivery systems for protein therapeutics. Since returning to Los Angeles, he has continued to tutor and mentor middle and high schoolers in math and science concepts.
Chris’s passion is rooted in providing support in underserved communities and in developing creative engineering solutions. At Pacoima Beautiful, he builds relationships with key community stakeholders and shed light on environmental issues that affect the community of Pacoima.
